About FreeHandwritingPractice
FreeHandwritingPractice.com is a free site for practicing handwriting: print letters, numbers and sight words for young children, the cursive alphabet for older children, and calligraphy basics for teens and adults. It is made by the people behind FreeMathPractice.com.
Three ways to practice
- Paper: every page has a free PDF worksheet in US Letter and A4.
- Finger or mouse: trace on any phone, tablet or computer.
- Apple Pencil or other stylus: the page reads pressure where the device reports it, and ignores your palm once the pen is on the screen. It works in the browser, with no app.
How the feedback works
When you press Check, the page compares your drawing with the letter it was drawn from: how much of your line stayed on the letter, whether each stroke started in the right place and went the right way and in the right order, and the size and slant. Then it gives one tip, the most useful thing to fix next. All of this runs on your device; nothing you draw is uploaded.
How the letters are drawn
Print letters use a simple upright ball-and-stick style. Cursive letters lean slightly to the right and join from the baseline, or from the midline after b, o, v and w. Each letter is stored as strokes with a start point and direction, which is what the stroke-order diagrams, the worksheets and the feedback are all built from.
